My paintings are Watercolors, Gouache, Oils, Acrylic & Digital, mostly of Washington, Oregon & Alaska. I have painted & studied art since age 14 (over 56 years) in Michigan where i was raised, Ann Arbor & Boston, where i went to undergraduate & graduate schools and in Alaska & Seattle where i've lived for 45 years. I am fortunate to have made a living as an artist for the 20 years in the Pacific NW wth such an exciting visual diversity.
I grew up painting mostly WaterColors, but once I started making my living as an artist i also painted with Oils, Gouache & Digital. I still love the soft edges and spontaneity of WaterColors which oft take me in a diferent direction than i intend & which forces me to go with the flo. But i also love the ability of Oils & Acrylics to blend, layer & correct. When I alternate between different media i discover different learning experiences, so whenever i feel in a rut i switch mediums to keep painting fun & fresh. No matter the media i prefer more impressionistic paintings which change with the light & invite your imagination to complete the painting. My goal in painting - if there is just one - is to create a feel of places i have seen and to capture a feel of Mother Nature that oft leaves me speachless at the sight of a spectacular sunset or the magesty of a landscape.
I do all my own printing on Cards, Calendars & Prints in my Seattle home studio so i can control the colors. My wonderful wife, June and i do all the packaging & shipping to my stores & galleries.
Thanks for visiting & thanks to my many stores that are so great to work with.
