My paintings are Watercolors, Gouache, Oils, Acrylic & Digital of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, NYC, New England & Europe. I have painted & studied art since age 13 (over 60 years) in Michigan where i was raised, Ann Arbor & Boston, where i went to undergraduate & graduate schools, in Alaska for 10 years & in Seattle where I have lived for over 38 years. I have been fortunate to make my living as an artist for the last 25 years in the Pacific NW - a place with such exciting visual diversity.
I grew up painting Watercolors but once I started making my living as an artist I added Oils, Acrylics, Gouache & Digital. I still love the soft edges & spontaneity of Watercolors which oft take me in a different direction than intended & force me to think les and go with the flo. But I also love the ability of Oils & Acrylics to blend, layer & correct. When I alternate between different media I discover different techniques, so whenever i am in a rut I switch mediums to keep painting fun and fresh.
No matter the media - I prefer more impressionistic paintings which change with the light & invite our imaginations to complete the painting. My goal in painting - if there is just one - is to create a feel of the places i have seen and to capture a feel of Mother Nature that often leaves me speechless at the sight of a spectacular sunset or the majesty of a landscape.
I do all the paintings. I print cards, calendars, and prints in my home studio or have them printed. My wonderful wife, June and I do the packaging & shipping to my stores and galleries. Thanks for visiting & thanks to my many stores & galleries that are so great to work with.
